I have a friend I find soothing to be around. He was in a car crash years ago. It appears he’s had many surgeries and walks and keeps his balance with concentrated effort. He can speak only a few phrases. I’ve been told the crash affected the part of his brain that controls speech. For me his phrases are a mantra:

Buckle Up; Calm (with a flat handed circling motion); Slow Down (drawn out vowel sounds); Humble-humble.

His ‘Humble-humble comes directly from his heart through his eyes – in gratitude. Gratitude.

And it turns me towards mine to find my own.
