My ire flares when I read ill-used language.

I was filling out some public school registration form for our town of Hopkinton. Scrolling down I came upon an ‘ethnicity’ checklist. Categories included: African American, Asian American, Native American, Hispanic & White (European American, Middle Eastern and something else I can’t remember).

There are no other skin “colors” listed in that document. (I have yet to witness white skin in person! or black, for that matter! (I held a white sheet of paper up to my skin – no go.)

The language/wording we use determines how well we solve our problems. Logic solves this one: IF African American, Asian American, Native (though I’m not wild about that designation) American THEN Hispanic (or more specific) American, European American, Middle Eastern (or more specific).

Come on, People!
