NPR is a mainstay in my day, this past week I heard a couple interviews that piqued my interest. One was with Thundercat. 

In no way do I profess to a comprehensive grasp of happening younger musicians. Vestiges of my memory recalled scribbling down the name of a musician on a receipt in the car driving home from New Hampshire Sunday.


I don’t remember what he said, but I do remember feeling agitated when the white noise of too much distance swallowed up the interview. I believe it was Thundercat’s social spiritual thoughts and views that caught my interest most of all. From what I remember, he felt his music deeply woven through and from his worldview. 

Because I hadn’t heard of him, I thought he was new – just starting out. Then I googled him. Turns out he’s a monster musician. He’s recorded with Herbie Hancock, Mac Miller, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Snoop Dogg and John Mayer, among others.
